June 7, 2007 OHV Club Meeting
Dear Members,
For everyone's information:
Here is the summary of what was discussed
at the June meeting. Hope to see you at the next one in July. There were 16
members and guests present. Thanks to Linda and Jim Martin for providing their
home for the meeting and also the wonderful refreshments provided by Linda and
Connie Guthals.
The minutes from the May meeting were read. Jim Martin motioned for approval and Sarah Garrett Second it. The minutes were approved as read.
The Treasurer, Linda Martin gave her report. The ending balance is $712.43. She also has dues for two needing to be deposited. Bob Kukuk had nothing to report on trails as there are none open at this time. Sarah Garrett had no trip schedule as there are no trails open to ride on.
Old Business:
WEB Site:
Applications on the WEB site has been improved and can be printed in better form. Classifieds for selling OHV related items by members has been added to the site. Sponsor page on the site is now ready for sponsors to be added. A hit counter is still in work.
CD's/DVD's:
Copies of CDs and DVDs have been made from the Trail Mapping class for
members that requested them. Jerre Guthals distributed them at the meeting. The
Hit monitor is in work.
501C-3 Status and Grant Applications - Bill
Gattis:
Bill Gattis reported we are 501C-3, we have a number and we are in good standing. The $25 fee was paid and contributed by Bill . Grant applications will be submitted after meeting with Tom Malacek. The number one priority for grant money is Miners Creek Trail.
Bylaws:
The by-laws have been changed to delete the May meeting and hold officer elections in July per the member vote at the May meeting.
New Business:
Officer Elections:
Jerre ask everyone to consider taking an office or to come up with names for nomination at the coming July meeting. Nominations are needed for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Trail Supervisor. Linda Martin has accepted Treasurer and Sarah Garrett will continue as Event Co-coordinator. Sarah Garrett will send an email asking members who were not present to consider the elections.
Trail Meeting:
Gilbert Becenti (USFS) , Jerre Guthals and Jim Martin had a meeting with a long discussion on trails. Gilbert recommended they meet with Tom Malacek. The meeting is scheduled for June 18th. The club would like to have the Miners Creek trail completed across Snow Mesa to Spring Creek corrals. The 1996 Forest Plan list 's it as a Class IV motorized trail. This trail has never been improved to meet that classification. The club hopes to get a commitment from Tom. If the commitment is received then Bill Gattis will continue with the grant application for funding of the project.
Search and Rescue:
It was reported by Karl Kolish that sometimes it is impossible to stay on trails or find the trails when working search and rescue missions thereby causing mass confusion. Karl will talk to Fred Hosselkus and Jim Adelman about writing a letter to the Forest Service about this problem. Perhaps this would give more justification to improving them for the public and Search & Rescue's safety.
Letter to Forest Service:
It was discussed that perhaps more letters should be sent to the Forest Service about repairing Miners Creek trail. It was decided to wait on letters until after we find out results from the June 18th meeting with Tom Malacek.
Next Meeting:
The next meeting will be a potluck dinner at the Boy Scout cabin at Miners Creek at 6:00 PM. Jim Martin will talk to Janelle Kukuk about electricity with a portable generator.
Cards:
Two cards need to be sent ....one to Wayne Parrack forthe loss of his wife
Lois and one to Susan Grigsby whois in the hospital in Richardson,
TX.
