Highlights of Creede OHV Club meeting 5/3/2007
The
Creede OHV Club May meeting was called to order by President Jerre Guthals at
7:00 PM at the Chamber of Commerce Annex.
All participants introduced
themselves. There were 4 Forest Service personnel and 14 members
present.
Last meeting minutes were not read or approved at this
meeting.
At this time the club has no Secretary/Treasurer with the
resignation of Moira Howard.
- Lisa Sieg, USFS, said
she was groveling for help to maintain trails due to budget cuts and lack of
seasonal helpers. She will be greatful for all the help she can get from
our club.
- Jim Martin and Jerre Guthals attended a
meeting in Steamboat Springs.on GPS mapping. A motion was made by Bob
Summers for the club to pay motel fees for the two of them relative to the
trip. Bill Gattis seconded and the motion carried. Jerre said he had
two DVD's from the meeting and would make copies for anyone interested.
One of which is instructions on GPS use.
- Forest
Service gave updates on activities relative to Travel Management Plan.
This year will be spent collecting data and they desire help from our
club. The 2002 map will be the baseline. Will review opening and
closing of certain trails and development of loops. Tweak the 2002
map.
- Jim Martin expressed concerns over trail
closings and expressed his desire that the Forest Service take into
consideration the re-opening of some roads that were closed in
1996.
- A suggestion was made that the club apply for
grants. The money would help the Forest Sevice and the Club. It was
also suggested that someone could be sent to Grant Writing School. Bill Gattis
volunteered to complete Grant applications for the
club.
- Dennis Vincent, USFS, updated members on Safety
Courses. Additions to the courses will be Bail Out, K-turns on steep hills
and loading trailers. Update courses will be offered to those who have
previously taken safety courses. New course schedules will be made
available soon. Jerre said that anyone interested in the Safety Courses should
notify Dennis.
- Linda Martin passed around a letter
she had written to the Forest Service and asked members to write and mail
something similiar concerning finishing Miners Creek trail. The letter
should be sent to: John Murphy- Recreation Roads and Trails. The acting
Forest Service Supervisor is Diann Chunk.

Discussion on ammeding the Club By-laws ensued. A motion was made by Bill Gattis
to chage the club By-laws as follows:
Drop the April Meeting and start
meetings in May.
Change election date to latter month when more members are
available.
Jim Martin seconded and the motion was
carried.
- Sarah Garrett is to send out reminder for
Club dues to be sent in this month. If Dues are not received by end of
July members will be dropped and will no longer receive
notifications/bulletins.
- Vince and Chris Kutac will
continue to maintain the Club WEB site since George Wolfe's death. The
only charge will remain membership in the club. Members re very
grateful. The application will be modifed on the site. Members were
encouraged to send pictures, etc, of trail rides.

Sponsers for club were discussed. The Tompkins Hardware and Snow Shoe Lodge were
mentioned. The question being "What's in it for them" ? Advertising,
referrals, club purchases......Linda Martin moved that we include sponser ads on
our WEB site. Bill Gattis seconded and the motion
carried.
- It was decided that the meeting minutes would be
sent to all the club members to keep everyone
informed.
- Data concerning our Non-profit status
was lost. Janelle Kukuk is contacting GG Dennis. Bill Gattis will contact
Janelle and determine what needs to be done to get this status
re-instated.
- The Club bank balance to date is
$589.65. Numerous members paid dues at the meeting and those will be
deposited.
- Discussion was made on club members
advertising OHV related items on our WEB site (i.e., helmets, trailers,
vehicles). Everyone felt it was a great idea. No
objections.
- Jim and Linda Martin ageed to have the June meeting
at their home. Jerre will check on the availability of the Boy Scout cabin
for the July POT LUCK meeting and the August meeting will be held at the Gattis
home.
- Sarah Garrett will send out ride schedules again this
year after confirming trails are open with Dennis Vicent and ready for
use.
